Before operating a CNC lathe, we typically perform several calibration tasks. These tasks not only enhance the machining accuracy but also significantly improve efficiency. Additionally, they help eliminate potential safety hazards that may arise from prolonged disuse. Today, our CNC lathe manufacturer will explain the three core calibration items required before starting the machine.
1. Spindle system calibration:
Spindle radial runout: Used to measure the radial displacement of the spindle's axis during rotation. It affects roundness and concentricity.
Spindle axial runout: Measures the movement of the spindle along the axis during rotation. Affects the flatness of the end face and the axial dimensions of the stepped shaft.
Runout of the spindle taper hole axis: Checking the runout of the tool holder or inspection rod in the spindle taper hole is directly related to the tool installation accuracy.
2. Guide rail and linear axis accuracy (X/Z axis):
Straightness: Check the flatness of the bed guide rails in both horizontal and vertical planes.
Parallelism/Tilt: Check the parallel relationship between various motion axes (e.g., the parallelism of the Z-axis guide rail relative to the spindle axis).
Positioning accuracy and repeatability: These are the core performance indicators of CNC machine tools. They refer to the consistency between the commanded position and the actual reached position (positioning accuracy) and the consistency of reaching the same position multiple times (repeatability). High-precision detection requires the use of a laser interferometer.
3. Perpendicularity between the two axes:
The perpendicularity between the X-axis and Z-axis: It is crucial for lathes. If not perpendicular, the machined end face will exhibit convex or concave shapes, affecting flatness and perpendicularity.
The above are the three core calibration items before starting the CNC lathe. We hope the explanation provided will be helpful for operating the CNC lathe in the future.
